Item No. 9C Type of Business: CB WK: Work Session; PH: Public Hearing; CA: Consent Agenda; CB: Council Business City of Mounds View Staff Report To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: Greg Lee, Director of Public Works Item Title/Subject: County Road H Sidewalk Project Resolution No. 6088 Awarding the Construction Contract Award Meeting Date: September 22, 2003 Background: On September 8, 2003, Resolution No. 6088 awarding the construction contract for the County Road H Sidewalk Project was presented to the City Council. At that time, the City Council was asked to choose from four options for awarding the contract. The anticipated cost of constructing a pathway across Spring Creek is very high. As a result, this segment of the pathway was designated as a “Bid Alternate” as opposed to being included in the original “Base Bid”. This bid arrangement would give the City Council flexibility to avoid awarding the more expensive portion of the project. The “Base Bid” consisted of the segment of pathway from Edgewood Drive to Knollwood Drive, and the “Bid Alternate” was the segment of pathway from Knollwood Drive to the West City Limits. The options presented on September 8, 2003 are summarized as follows: Option 1 – Do Not Award a Contract. Option 2 - $149,877.50 construction cost / $187,350 estimated project cost. Award the contract for just the Base Bid - segment from Edgewood Drive to Knollwood Drive. Option 3 - $383,914.60 construction cost / $480,000 estimated project cost. Award the contract for Base Bid and the Alternate – entire segment, from Edgewood Drive to West City Limits. Option 4 - $257,000 construction cost / $322,000 estimated project cost Award the contract for just the segment from Edgewood Drive to Knollwood Drive.
