Item No. 6H
Type of Business: CA
WK: Work Session; PH: Public Hearing;
CA: Consent Agenda; CB: Council Business City of Mounds View Staff Report
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council
From: Charles Hansen, Finance Director
Item Title/Subject: Resolution 5782 Authorizing Part-time Employment
for the Irondale Students through the Summer
Date of Report: June 4, 2002

As we worked to complete the 2002 Budget last fall, it came to the attention of the
Administration that the City has been paying part-time wages to Irondale High
School students who do filing, copying and similar tasks at City Hall. The City
Council and Administration hadn’t been aware of this prior to last fall.

A number of last minute changes were made to clean up the budget for part-time
personnel. Most personnel were reallocated out of the Central Services
Department. A budget of $13,331 for part-time personnel was left in the Central
Services Department for the Irondale students and to provide for any other
unexpected personnel needs.

The Irondale students have been costing the City about $200 per month so far in
2002 and are the only personnel being charged against the $13,331 budget.

The school has asked if the City would be interested in continuing to provide work
for the students through the summer. It appears that there is work for the students
to perform if the City Council approves their employment.

Respectfully Submitted,

Charles Hansen
