Besides serving as the heart of the transformation into the digital age, the G4 serves all <br />other regular PC duties, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and the internet. <br />This would act as the replacement for the current computer that doubles for <br />the bulletin board and administrative duties. Doing so would allow the current computer <br />to be dedicated to handling the bulletin board system 24 hours a day. The G4 <br />replacement would double as my new administrative computer for many years into the <br />future. <br /> <br />The non-linear editing system enables video production to be performed outside of <br />Cable Access. Demand for CTV editing facilities has sharply increased, and time is <br />limited to 8 hours per week. With the normal average of two video productions per <br />month, the ability to complete editing through Cable Access would be very difficult. <br /> <br />Item 06C <br />City Council Meeting <br />Page 4 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />The high quality graphics generating capability of the system would improve the look of <br />the web site and bulletin board system. <br /> <br />The City of Mounds View has a service program with CTV. Since CTV already owns <br />and maintains exactly the same editing system, they would be able to provide future <br />service and maintenance for our system. <br /> <br /> <br />Summary <br /> <br />The City of Mounds View has been moving toward digital video technology in the past <br />few years. The additional of a digital editing system comes at a time when computers <br />now have greater capabilities at a cheaper price. Just five years ago, a system similar <br />to this would easily cost $25,000. The current cable budget of $10,000 is set to handle <br />this major purchase without the use of any extra funds. This planned equipment <br />improvement is part of a long term conversion to digital video, with a planned purchase <br />of a digital video camcorder for 2003. <br /> <br />The purchase will be made through a local dealer that has a previous business <br />relationship with the City of Mounds View, and they are competitively priced. <br /> <br />The following are three quotes for this equipment: <br />
