View the option of storing future meetings on DVD, which would require less storage
space and have longer life expectancy. The recommended monitor is the Apple
Studio Display. A 17 inch flat panel monitor that is the least expensive model that can
handle video editing.

Item 06C
City Council Meeting
Page 3

Software

Recommended Software:
Apple Final Cut Pro 3: Video Editing Software
Apple DVD Studio Pro 1.5: DVD Burning Software
Adobe Photoshop Elements: Graphics and Titling Software

The Apple Final Cut Pro 3 is the editing software currently used by CTV. My own
research on editing software dates back to 1995. Since then, I have used many
different non-linear editing systems, including Avid, Premier, and Media 100. Final Cut
Pro software is by far the best non-linear editing system available for the price. Less
expensive editing packages, such as Casablanca, or other home video editing
software, are not considered as professional, and have much less features and
flexibility. The Final Cut Pro software was designed to encapsulate all the best features
found in most other editing software, including “Click and Drag” functionality, which
allows the producer to add a shot to a program by just dragging the video clip on to a
timeline. Final Cut Pro was built to perform all major tasks required for video, including
adding special effects, and converting to compressed video for the Web. Other
features include 99 layers of video and audio, color correction, audio editing, and audio
voice-overs.

The DVD Studio Pro is DVD Burning software made to work with the G4 and Final Cut
Pro. It is capable of creating custom professional DVD’s. It includes menu creation,
web links, and multiple audio tracks.

Adobe Photoshop Elements is an inexpensive tool for creating professional titles and
graphics. Photoshop is considered the standard, and most other software is designed
to handle Photoshop documents, including video, web page design, and PowerPoint
presentations, even electronic bulletin board displays.

Additional Benefits
