Activities / Level of Service Change with loss of a Full-Time Position

Snow plowing
Every person in Public Works Maintenance is assigned to a piece of
equipment (three plow trucks, loader, two skidsteer loaders, two pick-
up plow trucks, tractor, two snow blowers).
It takes 7 to 8 hours to plow after a snow event with current staffing
levels. A loss of a person would require 8 to 9 hours to complete the
plowing, which then invokes over-time pay.
Increasing plow time increases fatigue and elevates the probability of
an accident.
During back-to-back snow events, selected pathways and skating rinks
may not be plowed.
The fleet mechanic is included in the plowing activities. In the event a
piece of equipment is in need of service, the remaining plow crew must
take over the fleet mechanic’s route.

Hydrant painting
City Hall Repairs - hanging shelves, changing light bulbs, painting, etc.
Building maintenance
Carpentry work
Plumbing repairs
Building mailboxes (gang post as required by ordinance)
Sewer inspections
Response to citizens
Boulevard repairs (may not be done in a timely manner)
Roadway maintenance – decrease the level of work to be done
Tree trimming – to improve visibility (i.e. at intersections)
Response to vandalism
Properties not connected to City water – eliminate annual follow up
program
Mowing and maintenance of City rental property
Working with citizens groups to coordinate volunteer activities
Elementary school tour and educational programs
Court-ordered restitution program
Fertilizing
Some mowing
Walkway / trails that are NOT connected to schools will not be plowed
Some ball fields will not be maintained (i.e. Lambert, Oakwood,
Groveland, Hillview)
Baseball games would need to be consolidated to the main fields
Tree chipping
Weed trimming
Irrigation work (This would cause the athletic turf to suffer)
