Councilmember Trude noted that she had been contacting <br /> other government representatives and several had written letters to <br /> the grant committee recommending support of this project. <br /> MOTION/SECOND: Trude/Quick to Adopt Resolution Nos. 4530 and 4531 <br /> Stating the City Council's Commitment to 20% of the Cost of a <br /> Pedestrian Bridge Across Highway 10 with Fund Balance and the <br /> Commitment of Maintenance of the Bridge through Annual Parks <br /> Operating Costs <br /> VOTE: 5 ayes 0 nays Motion Carried <br /> C. Consideration of Approval of Contingency Funding for Ridding of <br /> Penta Carcenic Chemical <br /> Mary Saarion, Director of Parks, Recreation and Forestry reported <br /> that the City has been storing a hazardous waste called Penta and <br /> that it is a carcinogen. Saarion further reported that the law <br /> requires that it be kept in a special outer container and that it be <br /> stored in a secluded area and inspected weekly for leakage. Staff <br /> 111 has learned that the University of Minnesota, Department of <br /> Agriculture could properly and legally dispose of the carcinogen <br /> Penta currently stored by the City for a cost of $3 , 000. The <br /> Council asked several questions about the disposal procedure and use <br /> of Penta in Mounds View. <br /> MOTION/SECOND: Blanchard/Wuori to Approve the Use of Contingency <br /> Funds for the Removal of the Penta Hazardous Material at a Cost of <br /> $3 , 000 <br /> VOTE: 5 ayes 0 nays Motion Carried <br /> D. Consideration of Resolution No. 4535 Appr-ovIngpen-y-ing Upper Midwest_ _ <br /> Golden Gloves to Conduct Boxing Event at the Bel-Rae Ballroom <br /> Michele Severson, Deputy Clerk, reported that the Upper Midwest <br /> Golden Gloves had scheduled to hold a boxing competition at the Bel- <br /> Rae Ballroom on March 30 and March 31, 1994 . Staff had first became <br /> aware of the event because of an advertisement in the Minneapolis <br /> Star and Tribune. Staff contacted the necessary persons to fill out <br /> the paperwork needed to conduct such an event. Staff informed the <br /> City Council that this was the second time that the Upper Midwest <br /> Golden Gloves had failed to fill out paperwork with the City prior <br /> to conducting a boxing event. <br /> Councilmembers discussed their frustration with Golden Gloves <br /> management who overlooked state law requiredments for the second <br /> time this year. <br />
