Mounds View Planning Commission December 1, 2004
Regular Meeting Page 3
________________________________________________________________________

Mr. Moreland explained the importance of the design standard for the signs and the importance
of brand identity to CVS Pharmacy.

Commissioner Zwirn asked whether the letters could be reduced in size and still be illuminated.

Mr. Moreland indicated that the letters could be reduced in size.

Commissioner Zwirn said that he feels this many signs is too much for the site and makes it look
too busy.

Commissioner Hegland said he does not see the necessity for the repetition in the signage other
than to try and gain an advantage over the competition.

Commissioner Zwirn indicated that he would like to see the signage brought into conformance
with the City’s requirements.

Mr. Moreland asked whether the Commission was willing to consider allowing 100 square foot
on both Silver Lake Road and Highway 10.

Commissioner Meehlhause suggested eliminating the duplication of signs to reduce the square
footage.

The Commission discussed the matter and informally agreed to 100 square feet per side facing
County Road 10 and Silver Lake Road.

Mr. Moreland asked the Commission to consider 200 square feet cumulative but not to require
only 100 square feet per side because the Highway 10 side has one more sign. He then
suggested language for the Resolution that states that the wording and location of the signs is
approved but that the total square footage needs to be 200 square feet or less.

Planner Prososki suggested adding language to the Resolution to state that the signs shall be
constructed as shown on the site plan but scaled down such that the signs do not exceed a total of
200 square feet.

Mr. Moreland agreed to that condition as that would allow him to reduce the larger signs in order
to allow the smaller ones to remain or to reduce them overall in size.

Commissioner Zwirn indicated that he does not want the large CVS Pharmacy sign to increase in
size.

Mr. Moreland agreed to a condition in the Resolution to include that the CVS Pharmacy sign
shall not increase in size any more than listed in the site plan.

The Commission agreed to the 200 square feet with the wording inserted by Planner Prososki.
