Mounds View Planning Commission September 4, 2002 <br />Regular Meeting Page 5 <br />________________________________________________________________________ <br /> <br />Planner Atkinson indicated a public hearing would be held at the Council level for the <br />conditional use permit. <br /> <br />Commissioner Johnson asked if Mr. Backman had anything to say about the development. <br /> <br />John Kopas, the owner of Abbey Carpet and applicant for this request, addressed the <br />Commission and indicated that Mr. Backman is the reason they are coming to the City for <br />approval to build their building in Mounds View. He then said that Mr. Backman has been very <br />supportive whereas New Brighton had not been. <br /> <br />Rob Carlson, the builder associated with this project and co-applicant, addressed the <br />Commission and thanked Mr. Backman and the rest of the Staff for working with them on this <br />project. <br /> <br />Economic Development Coordinator Backman handed out materials about Abbey Carpet. <br /> <br />Economic Development Coordinator Backman indicated he had been working with the <br />applicants for more than 6 months and looks forward to them moving their business to Mounds <br />View. He then indicated that there would be 9 employees as well as 10 installers based out of <br />that location. <br /> <br />Economic Development Coordinator Backman indicated that Council approved utilizing $25,000 <br />of TIF funds for the demolition of the structure. <br /> <br />Commissioner Johnson commented that Mr. Backman had worked on this for a long time and <br />has been working very hard on development along Highway 10. <br /> <br />MOTION/SECOND: Johnson/Stevenson. To Approve Resolution 708-02, a Resolution <br />Recommending Approval of a Development Review Request for a Commercial Building and a <br />Conditional Use Permit to Allow Joint Facilities Parking for the Property Located at 2214 <br />County Highway 10 as Amended. <br /> <br /> Ayes - 6 Nays – 0 Motion carried. <br />______________________________________________________________________________ <br /> <br />7.
