<br />Item No. 9G <br />Meeting Date: May 14, 2001 <br />Type of Business: CA <br />WK: Work Session; PH: Public Hearing; <br />CA: Consent Agenda; CB: Council Business <br /> <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Mounds View Mayor and City Council <br />From: Aaron Parrish, Economic Development Coordinator <br />Item Title/Subject: Direct staff to prepare a letter of support for the National Handicap <br />Housing Institute. <br />Date of Report: May 9, 2001 <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />Staff has received a request to write a letter of support from Mike Bjerksett from the National <br />Handicap Housing Institute (NHHI) regarding the construction of accessible/affordable <br />housing units in Mounds View. Their proposal contemplates the construction of 20 units of <br />affordable housing for low income physically disabled adults. The proposed location is off of <br />County Road I just behind Super America. Previously, a proposal was received from Milo <br />Pinkerton to construct senior housing on this property with approximately half of the units <br />dedicated to individuals with Alzheimers. <br /> <br />Mr. Bjerksett has requested that a general letter written by the city indicating conceptual <br />support for the project. The letter will be included in a grant application submitted to the <br />Department of Housing and Urban Development. A letter written by Mr. Bjerksett has been <br />included at “Attachment 1” for your review. It should be noted that this letter would support <br />the project in concept.
