Item 11 – Council Retreat Needs and Options for 2000: Now is a good time to secure
facilitators for the coming year as they set their schedule. I received the enclosed
information from Lynn & Associates and know of their work with Richfield and New
Brighton. They take a little different angle than we’ve been used to, and I thought I
would pass it along if the Council were interested.

This is all so far for Monday. A few others things to note, I may add some survey
options based on our discussion December 7. There are several firms that do this and I
thought it may be easiest to draft RFP parameters and have them respond rather than cold
call a dozen or so firms. I will also be meeting with staff on housing next week as we try
to formulate an approach to that issue.

The County has received our request to add clarifying language to Highway 10 signs. It
appears they are leaning towards using “County” and “State” on the existing signs. Joe
Murphy mentioned that the multiple jurisdictions along 10 make it unlikely that “Mounds
View” would be the clarifying language.

A final reminder, New Year’s Eve will see the Police Department open late and a few
public works employees ready if there are any problems. Management staff are on call
all weekend. The Fire Department is manning the stations Friday night. If anything
happens that we feel Council needs to know about, we will try to contact you. So, we
feel we are about as ready as we can be for something that we have no idea of what will
really happen!
