1005.08 1005.09 <br /> <br /> <br />c. Heating Equipment: Every space heating, cooking and water heating device located in a dwelling or multiple <br />dwelling shall be properly installed, connected and maintained and capable of performing the function for which <br />it was designed in accordance with the provisions of the Building Code. <br /> <br />d. Electrical Service, Outlets and Fixtures: All residential structures and dwelling units shall be supplied with <br />electrical service that is adequate to safely meet the electrical needs of the structure and dwelling units in <br />accordance with the provisions of the Building Code. The size and usage of appliances and equipment shall <br />serve as a basis for determining the need for additional facilities. Every electrical outlet and fixture shall be <br />installed, maintained and connected to the source of electrical power in accordance with the provisions of the <br />Building Code 19. (1988 Code ∋93.10) Where it is found that the electrical system in a structure constitutes a <br />hazard to the occupants or the structure by reason of inadequate service, improper fusing, insufficient outlets, <br />improper wiring or insulation, or deterioration and damage, the Enforcement Officer shall require the defects to <br />be corrected to eliminate the hazard. <br /> <br /> <br />1005.09: LIGHTING AND VENTILATION STANDARDS: No person shall occupy, as owner-occupant, or let to <br />another for occupancy any dwelling, multiple dwelling, dwelling unit, rooming house or rooming unit for the purpose of <br />living, sleeping, cooking and eating therein which does not comply with the following requirements: <br /> <br />Subd. 1. Natural Light in Habitable Rooms: Every habitable room shall have at least one window of approved size <br />facing directly to the outdoors or to a court; provided, that if connected to a room or areas used seasonally <br />(e.g.,porch), then adequate daylight must be possible through this interconnection. Minimum total window area, <br />measured between stops, for every habitable room shall be ten percent (10%) of the floor area of such room. <br />Whenever walls or other portions of like obstructions are located less than three feet (3') from the window and <br />extend to a level above that of the ceiling of the room, such a window shall not be deemed to face directly to the <br />outdoors and shall not include as contributing to the minimum total window area. <br /> <br />Subd. 2. Natural Light in Nonhabitable Rooms: Every room, other than a habitable room, used or occupied by <br />persons, except rooms with infrequent occupancy, shall be provided with one or more windows opening directly <br />on a street or on a court or ventilating skylights conforming to the requirements of this Section, or such rooms <br />shall be provided with an approved means of mechanical ventilation. <br /> <br />Subd. 3. Light in Nonhabitable Work Space: Every laundry, furnace room and all similar nonhabitable work space <br />shall have one supplied electric light fixture available at all times. <br /> <br /> 19 See Chapter 1003 of this Title for Electrical Code.
