1005.09 1005.09 <br /> <br /> <br />Subd. 4. Light in Public Halls and Stairways: Every public hall and inside stairway, other than one and two family <br />dwellings, shall be adequately lighted at all times with at least a 60-watt standard incandescent light bulb or <br />equivalent for each 200 square feet of floor area, provided that the spacing between lights shall not be greater <br />than 30 feet. <br /> <br />Subd. 5. Electric Outlets and Fixtures Required: Every habitable room, kitchen, and public hall , shall contain at <br />least one floor or wall-type electric outlet for each 60 square feet or fraction thereof of total floor area, and in no <br />case less than two such electrical outlets, provided, however, that one permanent type light fixture may be <br />provided in lieu of one required receptacle outlet. Every laundry area, water closet compartment, or bathroom <br />shall contain at least one grounded type receptacle or a receptacle with a ground fault circuit interrupter. Any <br />new bathroom receptacle outlet shall have ground fault circuit interrupter protection. <br /> <br />Subd. 6. Adequate Ventilation: Every habitable room shall have at least one window which can be easily opened or <br />such other device as will adequately ventilate the room. A total openable window area in every habitable room <br />shall be equal to at least fifty percent (50%) of the minimum window area size required in subdivision 1 hereof, <br />except where there is provided mechanical ventilation in accordance with the provisions of the Building Code. <br /> <br />Subd. 7. Ventilation and Light in Bathroom and Water Closet: Every bathroom and water closet compartment shall <br />comply with the light and ventilation requirements for habitable rooms contained in subdivisions 1 and 5 hereof; <br />except, that no window shall be required in bathrooms or water closet compartments equipped with an approved <br />ventilation system. (1988 Code ∋93.11) <br /> <br />Subd. 8. Room Dimensions: <br /> <br />a. Ceiling Heights: Habitable space shall have a ceiling height of not less than seven feet six inches (7'6") <br />except as otherwise permitted in the Section. Kitchens, halls, bedrooms, and toilet compartments may have a <br />ceiling height of not less than seven feet (7') measured to the lower projection from the ceiling. Where exposed <br />beam ceiling members are spaced at forty-eight inches (48") on center, ceiling height shall be measured to the <br />bottom of these members. Where exposed beam ceiling members are spaced at forty-eight inches (48") or more <br />on center, ceiling height shall be measured to the bottom of the deck supported by these members, provided that <br />the bottom of the members is not less than seven feet (7') above the floor. <br /> <br />If any room in a building has a sloping ceiling, the prescribed ceiling height for the room is required in only <br />one-half (1/2) the area thereof. No portions of the room measuring less than five feet (5' from the finished floor <br />to the finished ceiling shall be included in any computation of the minimum area thereof. <br /> <br />If any room has a furred ceiling, the prescribed ceiling height is required in two-thirds (2/3) the area thereof, but <br />in no case shall the height of the furred ceiling be less than seven feet (7').
