Planning Case MU2017-001 <br />August 16, 2017 <br />Page 4 <br /> <br />Q7: How many people will live in the apartments? <br />Q7: It is not known how many people will live in the apartments, but the building will <br />include the following: <br /> <br />15 one-bedroom units <br />30 two-bedroom units <br />15 three-bedroom units <br /> <br />Q8: How many children will live in the apartments? <br />A8: According to MWF, 1.2 – 2.0 children per apartment are expected (72-120), <br />based on previous projects. <br /> <br />Q9: Can the schools handle more students? <br />A9: Yes, based on conversations between Staff and the Superintendent’s office, the <br />district has no concerns with adding 60-units. <br /> <br />Residents will be within the attendance areas of Pinewood, Edgewood, and <br />Irondale schools. <br /> <br />During the July 24th City Council Public Hearing (Preliminary Plat), a resident <br />expressed opposition to approving a project which; (1) would increase school <br />enrollment when the School District is saying schools are over capacity; and (2) <br />adding more students on free & reduced lunch when Pinewood Elementary <br />School has 56% of its students eligible for free or reduced lunch. <br /> <br />The Mounds View School District convened a facilities task force in 2016/2017. <br />The District is proposing bonding for funds to improve school facilities, including <br />adding capacity to schools. <br /> <br />Q10: Does the City own these properties? <br />A10: No. The project includes four properties. Two properties are privately owned, <br />and two are owned by the State of Minnesota through tax forfeiture, and <br />managed by Ramsey County. If the project is approved, the County will sell the <br />land to the City, which will sell it to the Developer at-cost. If the project is not <br />approved, the County will retain control of the tax forfeit properties. <br /> <br />Q11: Will the apartments bring more crime into the neighborhood? <br />A11: This is speculative.
