Item No: 6A
Meeting Date: October 17, 2007
Type of Business: Discussion

City of Mounds View Staff Report

To: Mounds View Planning Commission
From: Heidi Heller, Planning Associate
Item Title/Subject: Comp Plan 2008 Update

We will be discussing Chapter 4, Housing Elements. I am including a report for your
information from the Metropolitan Council regarding determining affordable housing
needs in the Twin Cities – “Summary Report: Determining Affordable Housing Need in the
Twin Cities 2011-2020.”

The Metropolitan Council is forecasting growth of 1 million residents to the Twin Cities
metro area by the year 2030. Every city in the 7-county metro area is expected to absorb
some of this growth, and is allocated a certain number of new affordable homes that they
are expected to aim for, and address how they will meet this amount in the comp plans.
In general, Mounds View is an affordable community to live in, with a mix of ownership
and rental opportunities, but still must address the continuing need for affordable housing.

Gary M, Keith & Mary Kay – you have the housing report in your Comp Plan folder.

Sincerely,

Heidi Heller
Planning Associate
