Mounds View City Council Page 15
Regular Meeting June 26, 1995
Ms. Werner questioned whether she would be assessed for a
sewer project if it were really needed in another
neighborhood, and how staff would determine if her sewer
needed work. Mayor Linke reviewed how the sewer lines are
televised to determine need for repair based on cracking,
pulling sand, breaks, etc., and explained that storm sewers
are part of the Storm Water Management Plan.
Ms. Werner asked if she would be assessed if her system is
rebuilt to improve an area six blocks away. Mayor Linke
explained she will be assessed if it is found necessary to
replace her system. Ms. Werner reiterated her opinion the
information given to the public is not adequate and residents
are not convinced whether improvements are necessary.
Councilmember Hankner pointed out the City has employees who
work with the sewer system on a daily basis and with the
cameras and inspections know the status of the system. Also,
engineering experts are hired when a project is considered.
She suggested Ms. Werner contact staff if she wants to know
more about her system.
Councilmember Trude stated she understands the resident's
concerns and advised the City will provide notice of the
public hearing when staff can answer those types of specific
questions.
Mike McGuen (SP?), 8345 Red Oak Drive, encouraged the Council
to table further consideration. He agreed this is a
complicated issue but once adopted, the residents will have to
live with it. He asserted there are some inconsistencies in
the purpose statement and suggested a statement be included
indicating one of the Chapters overrides the other. He
indicated support for funding sealcoating projects from the
General Fund, but questioned whether this would result in
residents wanting their road sealcoated more quickly. Mr.
McGuen requested further study be done on the percentages
charged by different suburbs.
Mayor Linke advised Mounds View has already studied that and
the information is available to residents in the Public Book.
Mr. McGuen asserted that when
information, rumors start. He
to the Fall to allow adequate
would like real rYUmbers on
projects and suggested there
articles.
resident's don't have tangible
requested the matter be tabled
time for review. He stated he
resurfacing and sealcoating
also be additional newspaper
•
