Page 7 <br />May 27, 1997 <br />Mounds View City Council <br />Council member Stigney asked if the city would want to salvage the electronic coat rack to be used during <br />dances, etc. at the Bel Rae. It was noted that the area where the coat rack is currently located will be converted <br />into a day care room and the council asked Mr. Whiting to look into the feasibility of salvaging the rack for <br />another location. <br />E. Discussion on the Demolition Bidding at the Bel Rae. <br />Mr. Whiting noted that the city accepted bids on a portion of the demolition work at the Bel Rae. He spoke <br />with the Construction Manager who indicated that he received three bids, none of which he feels are <br />satisfactory. They range in price from $29,000 to $159,000. He would like to extend the bidding period a <br />few more days. <br />Attorney Long explained that the city would need to officially rejcet atl bids rather than extend the bid period <br />and then solicit new bids. <br />MOTION/SECOND: Quick/Trude to reject all bids submitted for demolition work at the Bel Rae property. <br />VOTE: 5 ayes 0 nays Motion Carried <br />MOTION/SECOND: Trude/Koopmeiners to authorize staff to proceed with the solicitation of bids for <br />demolition work at the Bel Rae and to authorize the Mayor and Clerk Administrator to accept and enter into a <br />contract with the lowest responsible bidder so that demolition work can proceed. <br />VOTE: 5 ayes 0 nays Motion Carried <br />Mr. Whiting noted that the City of Mounds View has been authorized to receive a grant from tbe Minnesota <br />Department of Children, Families & Learning in an amount not to exceed $375,000 to be used for youth <br />organized construction at the Bel Rae. He thanked Mary Saarion for her efforts in the application process. <br />Mayor McCarty recommended that the City.
