Page 8
Cablecast SX2 Video Server $12,795 (or SXLE video server)
This unit has two video outputs, multiple hard drives in a RAID configuration for
data redundancy, and includes SDI playback. For programming only Mounds
View 16, the primary advantage is the RAID configuration. Mechanical failure of a
single hard drive would not take out all of the programming. If we need to
program for channels 14, 15, 16, 18, 19, 20, 21, and 98, we would need servers
with multiple output channels. Staff recommends the SX2 because of data
protection and redundancy of the RAID storage.
Video on Demand $8615
This replaces the service from CTV (Cassander). It would allow us to host all
meetings for on demand web replay. As a new benefit, we could make available
any other programming. We currently put short (5 minute and under) videos on
the City web site through GovOffice, but the technology does not allow for
anything longer than that. Repeated viewings of video content through GovOffice
could use bandwidth. It could be more cost effective to host content on the VOD
server instead of through the GovOffice host, depending on the level of service
we have subscribed to.
Live Streaminq $3165
The only streaming we currently have is City meetings while they are live. This
service is provided through CTV. To replace that function, we need the Live
Streaming Component. As an added benefit, Mounds View channel 16 would be
available to watch on the internet at any time. This could be useful for residents
or staff who are away from the city but would like to stay informed. It would be
helpful for Cable staff to monitor the channel away from the building.
Carousel CG -250 $3350
The unit for bulletin board. It automatically generates a playback schedule from
the programming information, and can output to the web site and the bulletin
board pages. It can generate coming up next pages and an replay date pages. It
is able to play short videos (PSAs) as part of the bulletin board rotation. The
design allows feeds of other information, such as time and temperature, school
closings, traffic cameras if the information is available as a feed.
8 port serial expander $830
This equipment is used to control devices. We could play a tape on the air, or
content from the DVD/hard drive recorders.
Training $1500
Tightrope Media Systems quoted $1500 for onsite training in the setup and
operation of the equipment.
