Page 9
Power Back Up
UPS battery back up would be strongly recommended to prevent channel
outages in the event of power interruption. The size of battery and length of time
it operates would be dependent on the switchover time to emergency generator
power.
Additional Ethernet lines to support the equipment.
There may be capacity in the server room adjacent to the cable room, and only
additional lines need to be pulled. There may need to be a network switch
installed in the cable room. These details can be worked out once a
determination is made to move ahead.
Cooling/Noise Issues
Much of this equipment is designed to be housed in a server room with
appropriate air conditioning. The current air flow of the cable room is marginal for
the existing equipment. Adding several modern servers would be entirely beyond
the air flow capacity of the existing configuration. Because of cooling fans the
sound output is not designed for an office setting. Alternative location of server
racks should be found, possibly on the lower level of City Hall with the computer
servers.
Total: $30,255 plus installation, UPS, Ethernet, relocation
This is the equipment needed to support one channel of video, Mounds View 16.
The manufacturer recommends a 5 -year replacement schedule for the video
equipment. Modern video servers can be thought of as computer servers that
specialize in video files and have a similar expected service life. The City could
budget an annual amount of $6500 for capital equipment to support a 5 -year
replacement cycle.
Eight channels (all PEG)
Under the terms of withdrawal, Mounds View would be responsible for managing
all of the PEG channels within the boundaries of the city. NSAC currently
manages eight channels:
14 - Local Government & Sports
15 - Local Programming
16 - City Channel
18 - School District 623
19 - School District 282
20 - School District 621
21 - Non -Local Programming
98 - Satellite Programming
