MOUNDS 1VIEW <br />Item No: 8.D. <br />Meeting Date: July 22, 2019 <br />Type of Business: Council Business <br />Administrator review: <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Rayla Sue Ewald, Human Resources Coordinator <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 9142, Authorizing Advertisement for Hiring a <br />Maintenance Worker in the Public Works Department <br />Introduction: <br />Public Works Maintenance Worker Blaine Backes has submitted his resignation. His last <br />day was July 15, 2019. <br />Discussion: <br />Staff is requesting to start the process of advertising and hiring for the vacant Public <br />Works position. The current Labor Agreement between the City of Mounds View and the <br />Public Works Collective Bargaining Unit requires all permanent job vacancies be posted <br />internally for five (5) working days so that interested employees may be considered for <br />such vacancies before the position is advertised to the general public. Only after the <br />vacancy has been posted for five (5) working days and no response is received from any <br />employee will the City proceed to posting the vacancy with an external source. <br />Strategic Plan Strategy/Goal: <br />Create a culture where employees desire to work. <br />Financial Impact: <br />None, this is a budgeted position. <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends approval of Resolution 9142 Authorizing Advertisement for Hiring a <br />Maintenance Worker in the Public Works Department. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />Rayla Sue Ewald <br />Human Resources Coordinator <br />The Mounds View Vision <br />A Thriving Desirable Community <br />
