<br />Item No: 08G <br />Meeting Date: January 13, 2020 <br />Type of Business: Council Business <br />Administrator Review: ____ <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Nate Harder, Chief of Police <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 9222, Approving the Promotion of Ben Zender to <br />the Position of Deputy Police Chief <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />The Police Department has an immediate need to fill the Deputy Police Chief position <br />with the promotion of Ben Zender to Deputy Chief. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br />In December 2019, Deputy Chief Steve Menard retired from the Mounds View Police <br />Department leaving the position of Deputy Chief vacant. A promotional process was <br />conducted with Sgt. Ben Zender being selected for promotion to the position of Deputy <br />Chief. <br /> <br />Mr. Zender successfully passed the required testing procedures, which included an oral <br />board, and an assessment and interview with Dr. Laura Pendergrass at Martin McAlister. <br /> <br />Mr. Zender has been out on a job related medical leave and is expected to return the <br />week of January 27th. The promotion and accompanying compensation would coincide <br />with his actual return date. <br /> <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Staff recommends City Council approval of Resolution 9222 a resolution authorizing the <br />promotion of Ben Zender to Deputy Police Chief. Deputy Chief Zender will be at Step 3 <br />$50.28 and subject to a six month probationary period.
