Parks and Recreation and Forestry Commission Meeting Minutes <br /> March 26, 2009 <br /> 6:30 PM <br /> <br />1. Call to Order at 6:40 PM <br /> Roll Call: Arel, Kunz, Kroeger, Palm <br /> Staff Present: Dazenski, Prindle <br /> <br />2. Approval of minutes from the February 26, 2009 meeting. Motion by Palm, 2nd by Kroeger, to approve <br />the February minutes. Motion Passed 5-0. <br /> <br />3. Public Input - Citizens are encouraged to speak to the Parks and Recreation and Forestry Commissioners <br />on issues of concern. No residents present. <br /> <br />4. YMCA Update: Prindle: <br /> Spring sessions started. Indoor soccer, preschool tumbling, etc. <br /> Kick-off for Summer Park Program this Saturday, March 28 from 12-2 PM <br /> Will NOT be running Adult Sofball Leagues due to lack of enrollment of teams. Only had 4 teams. <br /> Healthy Kids Day April 18th at MVCC <br /> Accepting registrations for summer programs through May 1st <br /> Resident questions about considerable increase in Summer Program fees. Last year the low cost resulted in <br />cost to City. This year wanted to have it self-sufficient and still keep 1-10 teacher-child ratio. <br /> <br />5. Unfinished Business: <br />a. Music-in-the-Park: Prindle approached Spring Lake Park about this idea. They felt that with budget <br />constraints, they would not be able to participate this year. <br />Consider area businesses to sponsors the event. <br />Looking at a weekday in late May or early June <br />$300-500 cost <br />Location: City Hall or Silverview Park <br />Do we need to pull a permit in order to hold the event? Probably—would increase the overall cost. <br />Direct Staff to investigate permit. <br />Direct Staff to send list of possible sponsors to Commission. Each Commissioner will contact two <br />sponsors to investigate possible willingness to support the program. Bring back results to April <br />meeting so we can make a final decision and book dates. <br /> <br />b. Lambert building replacement <br /> Staff provided photos of building condition. With budget concerns, it was recommended by Staff to wait a <br />few months before presenting to the City Council. No safety concerns are imminent. City Council <br />removed the budget items of engineering and building for 2009. <br /> <br />c. Comprehensive Park Lighting Program <br />Staff provided Lighting Needs Analysis for each park. <br />Safety concern about no lighting at Silverview Parking lot or trails. <br />Will start to include in the Park Improvement Plan <br />Direct Staff to investigate cost for lighting at Silverview and contact MVPD about any lighting and/or <br />safety concerns
