Item No. 6 B <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />M E M O R A N D U M <br /> <br />To: Parks & Recreation & Forestry Commissioners <br />From: Don Peterson – Interim Public Works Director <br />Date: July 27, 2017 <br />RE: Public Works Staff Report <br />_______________________________________________________________________________ <br />The following is a synopsis of recent activities and events of the Public Works Department. <br /> <br />Maintenance <br />Staff worked on the following items this last month: <br />• Painting all fields soccer, baseball and lacrosse fields <br />• Irrigation maintenance and repairs, Oak Wood Park, Community Center <br />• Mowing and weed whipping <br />• Building maintenance repairs on locks and windows at various park shelter buildings and the <br />Community Center <br />• Planter sign maintenance, painting and weeding of sign planters <br />• Storm Clean up <br />• Greenfield trail bridge repairs <br />• Greenfield 27 new trees planted Greenfield Park (North of Oakwood Park soccer fields) <br />• Festival in the Park preparation <br /> <br />Forestry <br />Staff worked on the following items this last month: <br />• Continue working on Emerald Ash Bore Response Plan – required by the DNR. <br />• Inspected and marked eleven (11) trees for and Oak Wilt and storm damage <br />• Removed twenty (20) trees from park trails, boulevards and park land that were damaged <br />from July storm <br /> <br />The following projects are planned this year. Current updates are in black text, and updates from <br />the previous two month period are in grey. <br />Silver View Park <br />Relocate Disc Golf Course: <br />• Scope: A new 9-hole course is proposed to be constructed in the NW corner of the park. <br />The work includes clearing trees, planting new tees, installing targets, removing existing <br />course items and landscape restoration. <br />• Budget: $25,000 (Park Dedication Fund) – includes $2,000 BBC contribution for improving <br />disc golf tees (Mar. 2011). <br />• Public Works Staff meet with Kelly to layout course will be reviewed later in the meeting, <br />staff also meet with Life Scout Ryan working towards Eagle for Tee boxes and baskets for <br />disc golf course. <br />• Tree removal and brush removal has been completed. Course T boxes and disc goals <br />have been GPS located and a map completed. <br />• No new progress at this time, meet with Eagle candidate Ryan this afternoon update will <br />be given at tonight’s meeting. <br />• Ramsey County will be clearing the ditch along County Rd I and Silver Lake Road starting <br />in August, hoping it is dryer by then. <br />• Eagle Scout will start on July 1 with the installation of the T boxes, Public Works Staff <br />started to remove some of the stumps, spread chips and prep T box sites <br />• Eagle Scout has completed the t – boxes, staff is working to move the baskets and <br />complete the wood chipping the trails, current plan is to have the course open beginning of <br />September. <br /> <br />Reconstruct Trailways: <br />• Scope: Reconstruction of the asphalt trails with an engineered pavement section and <br />grading/drainage corrections. Will require professional engineering services and obtaining
