1 | Page <br /> <br />Item No. 6B <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />M E M O R A N D U M <br /> <br />To: Parks & Recreation & Forestry Commissioners <br />From: Don Peterson – Public Works Director <br />Date: August 22, 2019 <br />RE: Public Works Staff Report <br />_______________________________________________________________________________ <br />The following is a synopsis of recent activities and events of the Public Works Department. <br /> <br />Maintenance <br />Staff worked on the following items this last month: <br />• Staining Park signs <br />• Weeding Park Signs <br />• Trail Trimming at Silver View Park <br />• Add new Wood Fiber Chips to Silver View and Hillview play grounds <br />• City Hall Park, Playground/ Splash Pad, site cleanup, irrigation repairs, sodding, seeding, <br />training on operations, testing of water daily. <br />• Festival in the Park preparation, Tree pruning, trail trimming, wood chip island, weed <br />spraying and removal in entire park, line painting for car show, pick up supplies, lights, <br />tables, chairs, sweeping of lots. <br />• Mowing <br />• Ball Filed prep as needed <br />• <br /> <br />Forestry <br />Staff worked on the following items this last month: <br />• Cut 2 large hazards from Silverview Park, had a third cut by contractor. Other pruning <br />throughout Silverview, including around parking lot for Festival in the Park. More standing <br />dead trees close to trail to be removed this winter. <br />• Watering trees continues. <br />• City-wide tree disease survey is underway. It should be wrapped up by 8/26/19. I’ll be <br />marking more ash trees this year than last year. <br />• It’s been a wet year. This has contributed to more oak issues that can be confused with oak <br />wilt. The situation is not as bad as it looks; most of these trees should look fine in the <br />spring. <br />• Wood chipping and tree maintenance when time allows <br /> <br /> <br />The following projects are planned this year. Current updates are in black text, and updates from <br />the previous two month period are in grey. <br /> <br /> <br />Silver View Park <br />Relocate Disc Golf Course: <br />• Ramsey County started tree removal along County Road I and Silver View Road in order <br />to re-profile the draining ditch on the North and West side of the park. Public Works Staff <br />has received numerous calls with concerns and complaints on the tree removal. <br />• Ramsey County continues to work in re-profiling the draining ditch along County Road I <br />and Silver View Road, located in Silver View Park. <br /> <br /> <br />
