MEMO TO: PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSIONERS
FROM: MARY SAARION, DIRECTOR
PARKS, RECREATION AND FORESTRY
DATE: APRIL 18, 1989
SUBJECT: OAKWOOD PARK IMPROVEMENTS
The "NO PARKING" signs have been approved by the City Council for placement on
Oakwood Drive as requested by the residents and recommended by the Parks and
Recreation Commission. They will be up by June 1 before the youth athletic season.
The issues brought up by the Oakwood area residents should be reviewed to begin
park improvement planning and options. I will have a catalogue with approximate
prices for item requests. Here are some items to discuss:
1. Playground equipment - what type, for which age group.
2. Backstop - should we purchase this or not?
3. Landscaping - perhaps this should follow improvements as a final phase.
4. Benches - by the play area.
5. Sandcourt volleyball - by the play area.
6. Picnic area - across street under poplar trees.
7. Turf management - a big issue.
8. Portable restroom enclosure - comments.
9. Oak tree - Forester Wriskey's opinion.
MS/SL
