citq
 VOR
RAMSEY COUNTY, MINNESOTA
2401 HIGHWAY 10
MOUNDS VIEW, MINN. 55112
DEPARTMENT OF PARKS, 784-3055
RECREATION AND FORESTRY
March 29, 1989
Irondale High School Student Council
c/o Mr. Erickson
2425 Long Lake Road
New Brighton, MN 55112
Dear Student Council Members:
It has become evident that better arrangements must be made to
accommodate the annual Irondale High School Ice Age Broomball
Tournament. Woodcrest Park took quite a beating due to use
beyond this small neighborhood park's capacities. The park
building sustained great abuse including a hole put in the wall
with a broomhandle, broken light fixtures, dented metal doors,
broken indoor wooden doors, grafitti on the doors and inside
walls and extraordinary litter. The parking was out -of -control
with cars parked in all areas of the park. Students drove right
past "NO MOTORIZED VEHICLES" signs. Over two weeks of
maintenance repair time and great expense in materials is being
expended to make the park building decent again.
Because of this experience, I wish to offer a couple suggestions
for next year's broomball activity.
1. Woodcrest is just too small to accommodate the usage
generated from the broomball tournament. I suggest that
next year's tournament schedule disperse games among three
nearby parks including Sunnysquare, Woodcrest and Lambert
Park.
