-2-
A few other thoughts to consider is:
The opportunity to hold this fireworks display as a joint city junction, splitting
the cost and benefiting more people.
Would the concessionaires opt to follow the crowd and continue sales at the
Spring Lake site. Are food concessions needed during fireworks? Could
community groups make better profits by selling snacks to the crowd, i.e.
candy, popcorn and pop?
Perhaps fireworks could be the "announcement" of "Festival' the night before
rather than the end finale on "Festival' day.
The Park and Recreation Commission is the designated advisory board for "Festival in
the Park". Staff has been directed to come to the City Council with information
regarding advantages and disadvantages to an optional fireworks display location.
Staff requests recommendations from the Parks and Recreation Commission regarding
the 1990 "Festival in the Park". I will be anxious to hear your thoughts and ideas at
the meeting on October 24, 1989.
MS/SL
