MEMO TO: MAYOR HANKNER
FROM: MARY SAARION, DIRECTOR 0
PARKS, RECREATION AND FORESTRY
DATE: FEBRUARY 5, 1990
SUBJECT: CELEBRATION IDEAS OF THE COMMISSION
I had mentioned to the Parks and Recreation Commission Chairperson Wayne
Burmeister your idea of getting together to discuss ideas for a Celebrate MN event
dedicating the new picnic shelter at Silver View Park.
Chairperson Burmeister and the Park and Recreation Commissioners brainstormed
ideas and came up with these items that they thought would be a fun community
event. Here are some of the elements of the brainstorming session:
Theme: Dedication of the Picnic Shelter - City Council, Lion's Club, Eagles Club.
(Those who work together, play together; clean-up is fun!).
FAMILY ACTIVITIES
a. Hot dog lunch for participants.
b. Nature trail plant identification.
C. Orienteering - group participation.
d. Treasure hunt - greatest volume of litter collection.
e. Scavenger hunt - litter collection items competition.
f. Park booth to inform people of park offerings.
g. Celebrate MN souvenir prizes.
h. New games - everyone playing together.
The Commission thought it would be nice to first have a dedication ceremony to
thank participating funding groups.
