CRY OF
'Quite Simply the Best"
February 15, 1994
Mr. Thomas LaHoud
2373 Laporte Dr.
Mounds View, MN 55112
Dear Mr. LaHoud:
Phone: (612) 784-3055
Fax: (612) 784-3462
Last week you spoke with Mr. Cruikshank, Assistant to the Administrator regarding the
maintenance of the ice rinks. It is reported that you were inflammatory and slanderous
in your comments regarding myself and the Parks Crew. It is appropriate to provide
suggestions and cgmplaints but it is inappropriate to exercise the slanderous statements
which are ignorant and false accusations of the parks maintenance crew. Not only is
your information erroneous, but your insinuations and accusations are equally as false.
Just because we are City officials and workers does not mean that the public can accuse
us falsely and with slanderous intent.
Please allow me to provide you with correct information. If you recall, approximately
three years ago you approached the Parks and Recreation Commission because you
thought that Lambert Park hockey boards needed replacement. Your request for new
hockey boards was submitted in the next year's budget and approved. As a result new
hockey boards were purchased and installed at a cost of $25,000.
Two years ago the City of Mounds View dedicated two workers for parks maintenance.
At this time also, the City began using a water truck in the process of flooding ice rinks.
With the use of a water truck came the opportunity to flood rinks during two shifts. It
is possible to flood a rink by oneself with a water truck whereas two people are
necessary for hose flooding. The water truck system is also advantageous because it
has modified spray bars that provide a thin coat of water spraying back and sides. The
thin coat allows the ice to freeze quickly allowing several coats each shift during prime
freezing weather and allows more even water distribution. Since we have two parks
workers, one begins a night shift after rinks close for the evening at 9:00 p.m. working
until early morning providing several sheets of ice. The other crew member works the
day shift and continues to flood if necessary. Other than rink activities, the park
workers also conduct other regular park activities including sign message changes for
City Hall, repairs to buildings such as windows, doors, heaters, indoor, outdoor and
security electrical lighting fixtures, etc. Maintenance vehicles and equipment are
carwreo warn
sovuK ,
2401 Highway 10 • Mounds View, MN 55112-1499
Equal Opportunity Employer
G)
100 ri CVC:L4 PW2r
