of the instructor's wages. Each class would have a set age range
relative to the necessary skills and abilities required for the
activities.
This option would provide .tight security for children because
they would be at the park building for a particular activity -
with a limited enrollment. However, restricted enrollment also
means that many children will not receive the opportunity, and
most likely it will -be those children who do not have the skills,
age level, or interest. There may be a great number of children
who are not interested in the classes who have no other
alternative for summer daytime activities. This option offers a
good secure program for a few, but does not provide activity for
the majority.
There are pros and cons for each option. I would like the City
Council to discuss the program options and provide staff with
direction for this coming summer, 1994. The Parks, Recreation &
Forestry Department is. happy to provide either option, but does
not want to be put in a position of providing something that is
impossible. Therefore it is important that each option's
limitations are understood. The Parks and Recreation Commission
will be discussing this item which is on their agenda for the
October 28 Commission meeting. They may be able to provide -a
recommendation regarding the two options.
