PARKS. RECREATION & FORESTRY <br />1993 IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY <br />FACT SHEET <br />Mounds View Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department inpacts the <br />community in several different beneficial ways. <br />1. One is the number of p/t and seasonal employees that are <br />employed with the department, offering supplimentary income <br />to adults, tuition money for college students and an <br />opportunity to gain spending money and a first time job <br />experience for teens. <br />* Over 128 persons of the community were employed in 1994 <br />through the Parks, Recreation & Forestry <br />Department including: 22 - High school students <br />45 - College Students <br />61 - Adults <br />* Over $93,134 was put back into the community as <br />economic gain re. part time employee income. <br />2. The second benefit is the provision of a variety of leisure <br />recreational programs for the community that offers social <br />interaction, skill development, expanded interests, physical <br />fitness, an appreciation of the environment and a spirit of <br />adventure and participation. <br />* Over 296 leisure recreation programs and activities <br />were offered to the community resulting in over 10,682 <br />countable participants. <br />* Class Divisions include: Preschool Programs <br />Student Youth Programs <br />Adult Programs <br />Senior Citizen Programs <br />Aquatics <br />Special Events <br />Adapted Programs <br />3. A third benefit is the number of volunteer hours provided <br />by the residents of the community. <br />* Over 328 volunteers providing 9483 hours of volunteer <br />work were recruited and supervised by the Department. <br />* Even at minimum wage, the volunteer hours equals <br />$41,251 worth of work. <br />4. Over $48,165 were acquired through grants and donations for <br />park improvements and recreation activities. <br />
