8 Ball Prv=am Rules
Program
This is a fun program designed for children who are 7 and 8 years old. The 8 -ball
program is the next level of baseball in which the coach will pitch a ball to each batter.
This program is not designed to produce great athletes; rather it is designed to enhance
a child's skill level and offers an opportunity to meet and interact with other children in
a low key, recreational setting.
Rosters
Official team rosters have been compiled by the Parks and Recreation Department. Any
change must be approved by the Athletic Supervisor.
Playing Rules
High school Baseball Rules will prevail with the following modifications:
e Bases shall be 45 feet apart (approximately 15 - 17 big walking steps), with 1st
and 3rd bases being measured from home plate down the respective foul lines.
Second base should be aligned accordingly with 1st and 3rd bases.
e Each game shall be three innings or one hour and fifteen minutes long, which
ever comes first. Scheduled game times will be 6:00 pm and 7:15 pm
No new inning of the first game may start after 7:15 pm. The home
team coach's watch shall be the official time piece. The inning in
progress when time limit concludes may be finished.
e An arc with a 15 foot radius (center point being the front edge of home plate) will
extend from foul line to foul line in front of home plate. In order for a batted ball
to be in play it must travel beyond this arc. (No bunting)
e While batting, the only players that should be on the field are the batter and the
on -deck batter. Everyone else should remain seated in the teams batting order.
e The ball should be pitched to the batter by an underhand motion from the team's
coach. It is the job of the coach to try hit the bat of the batter so they can hit the
ball. Coaches should have the player take a practice swing to determine the
child's hitting area. Don't expect the player to chase after bad pitches.
Remember you are trying to teach the children hand, eye coordination.
e The coach shall pitch from a distance of no less than 20 feet in front of home
plate. If a child is having trouble hitting the ball it is recommended to have the
child take a break and come up to bat later to try again.
e One half inning consists of each player batting once regardless of any outs made
by the fielding team. All players present at the game must be included in the
batting order.
e One base is allowed on an over throw at any base. This will help speed up the
games.
