® After the last batter has hit, the defensive team signifies the end of the inning by
having the catcher touch home plate.
a It is recommended that the maximum number players placed in the field is 12
children. There should be one child at every infield position, and the extra
children in the outfield. Note if your team only has 13 players at the game put
this child also in the outfield. Remember it is no fun for the child to sit on the
bench.
® Catchers must wear the equipment provided to the coaches (Mask, chest
protector, and maybe shin guards)
® Positions should be changed each inning. All players should experience playing
all positions. Coaches should start to emphasize position specific play so that
the children learn what each position does.
® The catcher should stand 6 feet behind batter until the ball is hit.
® All players will shake hands at the completion of the game. Coaches should
stress the learning of good sportsmanship.
® Score and Standings will not be kept, a philosophy of skill development,
teamwork, and fun will be stressed.
Sportsmanship
Profanity and personal baiting of opponents by players or spectators shall not be
permitted. Abusive baiting is defined as remarks referring to the nationality, religion,
creed, or physical characteristics of an individual. The coaches shall remove anyone
from the game for violating this rule. (Note: Coaches are responsible for the behavior
of their team and their fans.)
Rain Out Policy
Where weather is a factor, the coach of each team should contact the Parks and
Recreation Department after 4:00 pm on the date of the game to find out if the games
have been cancelled. If the Recreation Department states that the games are on, each
team should report to their assigned fields; if the field is unplayable, a mutual decision
between coaches should be made at the field. Players are to call coaches to find out
if the game has been postponed, not the Parks and Recreation Department.
Tips for 8 -Ball Coaches
® Start teaching your players about force outs. Teach your players where to throw
the ball when there is runners on base and it is hit to them. Stress to players
they should know what to do if the ball is hit to them. Develop drills to teach the
players this concept.
® Develop drills that will improve the players hand, eye coordination for both
fielding and hitting.
® Coaches should clear the bases if the fielding team does make three outs. The
batting team is not done hitting until everyone on their team has batted once in
the inning. By doing this it will teach the players that the idea is to get players
out when they are on defensive.
