Other areas of the grasslands between the
path and the pond will be mowed on a less regular basis depending upon weather and soil
conditions. We noticed, while walking the path as a group in October, that one area had been
mowed closer to the pond than we had recommended. This area is along the Manor homes, in
front of the bench where the grass has been mowed down to the water. This area was not
mowed by the Parks maintenance crew and therefore it is assumed that residents of the Manor
Homes have been mowing the area. The purpose for the grassy buffer area is to filter any
fertilizer runoff that may occur as well as provide a buffer habitat for wildlife as recommended
in the Environmental Studies Report.
It is our request that homeowners abutting Silver View Park abide by the standards of care for
Silver View Park that has been recommended by the Parks and Recreation Commission, in
efforts to maintain the path and pond portion of the park as passive and natural with a woodsy
atmosphere with wildlife and natural vegetation. Well-groomed, yard or lawn -like manicured
grounds are not the intent nor the recommendation for this nature area of the park.
The Parks Maintenance crew has been directed by Parks, Recreation & Forestry Director
Saarion to comply with the recommendations that we have provided re-arding the restoration of
grassy areas for wildlife habitat and chemical Filtration in the areas of the pond.
As you know, it is difficult to please everyone. Each individual seems to have their own
preferences - - - even when it comes to use and maintenance of a park path. It is difficult to
coordinate the requests of all the preferences of residents and impossible to make everyone
happy. However, we are doing our best to meet the needs of the community as. a whole, making
a standard of maintenance that is both feasible and consistent with the natural theme of the
pond and trail portion of the park.
Sincer'ly, t
Mounds View Parks & , creation Commission
"INTL➢ WITH --,
` SOYINK _ 2401 Highway 10 • Mounds View, MN 55112-1499
