MEMO
To: Parks and Recreation Commission
From: Mary Saarion
Subject: Park Improvements Report
Date: August 19, 1998
This Fall the City Hall large athletic field has been closed for improvements. The infield edge will
be cut, infield aggregate replaced and leveled. In addition, Hillview Park athletic field infield will
be crowned and additional aggregate installed for better drainage. This work should improve the
drainage of both fields which really helps keep the fields in use after rains.
In addition, staff is receiving cost estimates for sealing Silver View Park asphalt trail and for re-
surfacing the hard court. Both surfaces need recoating for continued preventative maintenance
and upkeep.
In addition, a bid has been received for a new park truck to replace the 3/4 ton. Boyer Ford is the
only bid received. The bid is basically the state bid for 3/4 ton trucks. There were not enough die
casts for 3/4 ton trucks this year - the state chose to make '/2 tons instead and it has been difficult
to find a supplier. The bid is well within budget so it is anticipated that City Council will approve
the purchase.
City Hall soccer field has been moved from along Hwy 10 to the area which overlays the youth
athletic field north of City Hall.
All but one summer seasonal parks maintenance employee will be reporting back to school by
September 2. It is during this period that parks maintenance staff is spread thin with the need to
continue grass mowing, daily athletic field grooming, and other daily tasks as well as continue
repairs and improvement projects.
