MEMO
To: Parks and Recreation Commission
From: Mary Saarion
Subject: Sponsorship amount for 1998-99 season of IBA
Date: August 19, 1998
Just thought I would keep you all informed as to our monetary commitment to the 1998-99
season of Irondale Basketball Association activities. I reviewed and submitted times to
Community Education for subsidization of about the same amount of time as last year's IBA
request, trusting that the costs will be within our budget. This equates to approximately $5,750
worth of subsidization depending upon the percentage of cost which increases and decreases
depending upon multiple users of school facilities at a given time. This is always the unknown
factor making budgeting and time commitment very "iffy" for both the city as a sponsoring agent
and for IBA in their determination of fees that will pay for school use costs over and above those
subsidized by the city. The 1999 department budget request for 1999 is $9,600 for all school use
fees for the entire year for all programs. IBA subsidization constitutes more than half of this
amount. Any additional time that is not subsidized by IBA will need to be paid by the association
with registration fees. I have spoken with Deb Verdoorn and she is comfortable with the city's
commitment.
