c.) Developing a Volunteer Coach of the Year award and naming it after Patrick "Homer" Holmes — The <br />Commission developed selection criteria, who would be eligible, and the process for approval. The <br />Commission will next finalize the application and set deadlines for this award. The Connnission may <br />want to review and recommend the wording for the plaque. Attached is a copy wording that was on the <br />Citizen of the Year plaque along with the current draft of the nomination form. <br />Kroeger will contact Mrs. Holmes regarding the name of the award itself. <br />How will we get the word out that this award is available? Through MVCC and area associations <br />as well as the Mounds View Matters <br />6. New Business: <br />a.) Establish 2008 Meeting Dates — a draft schedule has been developed with the meetings scheduled for <br />the forth Thursday of the month (except for November and December). Motion to approve dates by <br />Palm, 2"a by Peterson. Motion Passed 7-0 <br />b.) Commission to recommend a Chairperson, Appoint a Vice -Chairperson, and Secretary for 2008. <br />Jerry Kunz will continue as Chairperson, Gerald Arel will be Vice -Chairperson, Cindy Palm will <br />continue as Secretary. <br />c.) Oakwood Park: 2008 Striping and Implementation Plan - The YMCA and Staff will present a plan for <br />review and approval by the Parks and Recreation and Forestry Commission on how should Oakwood <br />Park be utilized in 2008. Kroeger is receiving feedback from area soccer associations concerning field <br />usage and recommendations. Currently we have room for one IJ12 and two U8 size fields or two U12 <br />fields. Discussed options to use moveable goals and rotate as needed to preserve the field so as not to <br />overuse the new turf. Priorities for 2008 would be for MVCC YMCA programs with the options of <br />renting to area associations if/when the Parks Department feel it is ready. <br />d.) Neighborhood Park Meetings — discuss the concept of holding Neighborhood Park Meetings for <br />selected parks each year. The intent would be to solicit more public input regarding the long term vision <br />and plan for a particular neighborhood park. The Commission provides the venue for public input at <br />each meeting. If residents have concerns about other parks, they are welcome to attend future <br />meetings. <br />e.) Other New Business? Winter park activities: Sliding hills at SilverView, Pinewood Elementary, and <br />Edgewood Middle School. Walking trails at Silverveiw, Cross Country Skiing at SilverView <br />Commissioner/Staff Reports: <br />a) Parks and Recreation Appointments — On December 10, 2007 the City Council appointed Jerry Kunz <br />and Cindy Palm to another term on the Parks and Recreation and Forestry Commission. Attached is an <br />updated Commissioner List. <br />b) Woodcrest Park — As directed by the Commission, and based on the guidance from City's Forester, <br />Rick Wriskey, Staff has removed some trees from around the two ponds closest to Woodcrest Drive. <br />Mr. Sonterre, area resident who brought this to the Conunission's attention, contacted Aukee with <br />appreciation of efforts. <br />c) Tree Preservation Ordinance - On December 10, 2007 the City Council approved Ordinance No. 785 <br />establishing a Tree Preservation Ordinance. This version of the ordinance targets undeveloped areas <br />and not existing residential property. Attached is a copy of this ordinance. <br />
