The Mounds View Vision <br />A Thriving Desirable Community <br /> <br />Item No: 8G <br /> Meeting Date: May 11, 2020 <br />Type of Business: CB <br />Administrator Review: ____ <br /> <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Don Peterson, Public Works Director <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 9274, Approval for the Repairs of the Event Center <br />Divider Wall Panels at the Mounds View Community Center <br />Background: <br />A meeting was conducted with the YMCA Staff members regarding building alterations for the <br />Community Center and the ideas were presented to the YMCA Advisory Committee to gain input <br />and further direction. During this meeting funding for projects was discussed. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />The Event Center has wall dividers that allows the space to be partitioned into smaller rooms for <br />rental. The wall panels are original (1997) and has had limited maintenance over the years. Many <br />panels are damaged and in need of repair or replacement. <br /> <br />Staff has received 3 quotes to replace the wall covering fabric and repair the damaged panels, <br />with the low quote from Skold Contracting LLC of Isanti MN. <br /> <br />• Skold Specialty Contracting LLC total of $99,995.00. <br />• H & B Specialized Products, Inc for $103,839.00. <br />• W.L. Hall Co for $136,263.00. <br /> <br />Further Discussion: <br />The 2020 budget, Special Projects, fund 480-4160-7050 includes $128,000.00 for wall divider <br />replacement and front counter gate. Staff discussed these repairs with the City Administrator and <br />Finance Director and it was agreed that because of COVID-19, the building isn’t currently being <br />utilized so therefore an opportune time for the project. <br /> <br />Strategic Plan Strategy/Goal: Maintain and Plan for Infrastructure Improvements. <br /> <br />Financial Impact The 2020 budget, Special Projects, fund 480-4180-7050 includes $128,000 for <br />event center dividers and front counter gate. No additional transfer of funds is necessary. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends the City Council approve the quote from Skold Specialty Contracting Inc, of <br />Isanti, MN to repair and replace the Event Center wall panels for a cost of $99,995.00. Staff also <br />recommends the City Council approve a 5% contingency of $4,999.75 for any unforeseen issues <br />that may arise during this project to be funded from account 480-4160-7050, Special Projects, <br />with a 2020 budget amount of $128,000.00. <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br />Director of Public Works <br /> <br />
