38 <br /> <br />Section 3.11 Political Activity <br /> <br />City employees are prohibited from participating in political activities during normal <br />working hours, while on City property or while wearing any uniform, device or equipment, <br />etc. which could serve as identification of the employee as a City employee. <br /> <br />Any employee seeking public office within the City shall terminate employment or have <br />an approved leave of absence prior to filing for such office and comply with the provisions <br />of Minnesota Statute 211.B. Any employee seeking public office in a different city shall <br />not permit such candidacy for office or performance of the office to interfere with his/her <br />duties with the City. Campaigning or the conducting of other business shall not take place <br />during work time. <br /> <br />The section shall not be interpreted or enforced in a manner which conflicts with the <br />provisions of the City Charter and/or laws of the State of Minnesota. <br /> <br />Section 3.12 Safety Policies <br /> <br />The health and safety of each employee of the City and the prevention of occupational <br />injuries and illnesses are of primary importance to the City. To the greatest degree <br />possible, management will maintain an environment free from unnecessary hazards and <br />will establish safety policies and procedures for each department. Adherence to these <br />policies is the responsibility of each employee. Overall administration of this policy is the <br />responsibility of each supervisor. Supervisors shall be responsible for: <br /> <br />• Establishing safety regulations within their department. <br />• Reviewing safety procedures with all employees <br />• Instructing employees in accident prevention. <br /> <br />It is the duty and responsibility of each employee to: <br /> <br />• Understand and follow rules and safety standards. <br />• Make sure they are familiar with the safe and proper use of any tool or piece of <br />equipment before it is used. <br />• Operate all tools and equipment in a safe and careful manner. <br /> <br />Reporting Accidents and Illnesses <br />Both Minnesota workers’ compensation laws and the state and federal Occupational <br />Safety and Health Acts require that all on the job injuries and illnesses be reported as <br />soon as possible by the employee, or on behalf of the injured or ill employee, to his/her <br />supervisor. The employee’s immediate supervisor is required to complete a First Report <br />of Injury and any other forms that may be necessary related to an injury or illness on the <br />job. <br /> <br />
