Public Remarks
Marcus Curtis, 7660 Spring Lake Road
Concerning Spring Lake Road Reconstruction
Good evening Mrs. Mayor and Council Members. My name is Marcus Curtis and I
reside at 7660 Spring Lake Road along with my wife, Sarah and our nine -month -
old son, Odin.
My comments this evening are in regards to the upcoming street improvement
project and the current staff recommendations relating to Spring Lake Road. At
times, I will speak in general terms representing some of the many individuals
who live between County Road I and County Road H2 opposing the staff
recommendations.
I do expect several other members of the community, who undoubtedly have a
greater history in the community than myself, to also address the council this
evening following my remarks.
Sarah and I purchased our home in May of this year with hopes of improving it
over time and raising a family in a neighborhood that offered great schools, parks
and outdoor recreation along with an overall tranquility one might only expect
from a small town in outstate Minnesota.
Knowing that our home had frontage on County Road I we admittedly chose to
compromise on our desire to be away from traffic primarily because we fell in
love with the area and the tranquility of Spring Lake Road. A quintessential
neighborhood street.
The current staff recommendation for this project, as published on the project
website, reads: "City Staff recommends a 13' drive lane in either direction with
added curb, gutter, and multi -use trail on the west side of the road."
By and large, the community is not opposing the project in its entirety. Rather,
the majority of landowners oppose the trail system.
Likewise, there are numerous heritage trees- mostly Oak trees- that are in danger
of being removed. This is of great concern especially for those landowners who
host those trees as part of their homes landscape.
