Public Remarks
Marcus Curtis, 7660 Spring Lake Road
Concerning Spring Lake Road Reconstruction
If you look to the city logo behind you, you will see a tree, an oak tree as
representing this city. It would be a shame to see such trees vanish from the
cityscape.
Lastly, while curb and gutter is mostly accepted by the community it has been
shared with us that many cities have begun working on new initiatives to go curb -
less on their roadways where it makes sense. Often referred to as "green streets".
Curb and gutter seem to be a pointless expense for the city considering how well -
draining our native soils are.
This all said, we do not oppose the proper replacement of Spring Lake Road. We
understand that it is the city's goal to increase connectivity. This should be
supported by the community as a whole where it makes sense such as those
arterial roadways that exist today.
Spring Lake Road is not an arterial road nor should it be made into one. This is a
tranquil neighborhood street.
Understandably, there are design guidelines as mandated by the state aid road
program that traditionally would dictate the final design of this project. I ask for
the city to consider the feedback of the project stakeholders prior to approving
the project design. We do hope all Council Members will be present at the August
25th meeting on this subject.
Provided to city administration this evening is a copy of my prepared remarks
along with a petition that at present time holds the signatures of 35 community
members and growing.
Thank you.
