MOUNDS VIEW <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />Item No: 08L <br />Meeting Date: November 14, 2022 <br />Type of Business: CB <br />Administrator Review: <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Don Peterson, Director of Public Works/Parks & Recreation <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 9650 Authorization for New Playground <br />Equipment and Installation for Greenfield Park <br />Background/Discussion: <br />The playground equipment at Greenfield Park is 20 plus years old. Signs of aging include <br />the pealing of the equipment coating, sun fading of some of the plastic components along <br />with rust development on various metal components. <br />The Parks and Recreations and Forestry Commission approved replacing the playground <br />equipment at Greenfield Park at their September 22, 2022 meeting. The City Council <br />approved the new Playground equipment at their September 26, 2022 meeting. <br />Not included in the cost of the new playground ground equipment were the swings, small <br />playground for ages 2-5; the Commission requested Staff to obtain cost estimates. <br />Upon Staff meeting with Minnesota/Wisconsin Playground, the recommendation is to <br />replace the swing set, small playground for ages 2-5, and one of the spring ride <br />components. The merry-go-round will be kept and refurbished, also the balance beam <br />and climbing wall will remain. <br />Additional Discussion: <br />The Commission also recommends that a pavilion or some type of shade structure be <br />installed for the park patrons to utilize. <br />Staff received cost estimates from Minnesota/Wisconsin Playground and presented this <br />to the Commission at their October 27, 2022 meeting. <br />The Commission is recommending the following improvements: <br />• New Playground for ages 5-12 from the Game Time National Recreation Parks <br />Association at a cost of $ 148,935.45 with the additional installation cost of <br />$21,456.00 <br />• New playground equipment for ages 2-5 to include a new spring component, and <br />swing set and swings, for a cost of $24,853.13 with the additional installation cost <br />of $8,242.00 <br />The Mounds View Vision <br />A Thriving Desirable Community <br />
