I am not opposed to low income housing. I am in one of the houses that
would be 40 feet away from this development.
There have been multiple apartment buildings added to the city in the very recent past. There
has not been an increase in businesses or in getting more people to come to Mounds View to
spend their money. I don't think we need new construction - I feel like there are existing
structures that could be revitalized and given new life. I also feel like low income live/work
housing might be more effective. I think about the artist co-op in downtown Saint Paul, for
example.
My biggest issue is with the loss of green space. We on O'Connell are surrounded by
developments, but in my back yard I have encountered turkeys, deer, raccoons, coyotes, and
rabbits. Overhead I watch a multitude of birds, and even see bald eagles fly overhead on a
semi -regular basis. I am not in favor of losing these things for another apartment building.
The city needs to think outside of the box here.
Warmly,
Cat Fitzgerald
