1111
MEMO TO: Mounds View Parks & Recreation Commissioners
FROM: Staff
DATE: February 24 , 1982
SUBJECT: M.R.P.A. Update
As you are aware, the Minnesota Recreation and Parks Association
is our professional organizations which coordinates conferences,
seminars and generally serves as our adminstrative body. Staff
has enclosed two memos outlining current issues which are facing
our organization.
The first is the legislative platform which is a major "arm" of
our organization and one which we have just begun to feel some
clout. We do have a part time lawyer working for M.R.P .A. which
does some lobbying and leg work but the majority of our legislative
efforts is done through volunteer efforts.
1111 The second issue involves our recreational sports program which
our City actively participates in. The recreational sports program
offers advanced state tournament play for a wide range of sports,
broomball to softball for young and old and the physically and
mentally disadvantaged. The basic issue is that one of M.R.P .A. ' s
past employees was terminated with M.R.P.A. and has gone into
direct competition with a similar sports program. The enclosed
letter from our President, John Christian, outlines our position
and what has evolved in the past 6 months. As this is an extremely
complex issue, we will be providing you with additional commentary
on Thursday.
BKA/bc
Enclosures
•
