Michaud My letter to you is intended to be an open message addressing an
Representative 2 Elliot Perovich extremely critical issue facing the professional integrity,
purposes, objectives and, very frankly, the future of the
WEST METRO Minnesota Recreation and Park Association. The issue is our
Representative 1Thomas Johnson recreational sports program and the challenge to MRPA to deliver
Representative 2 Ronald Schwartz a high quality sports program in Minnesota.
Representative 3 Debbie Backstrom
By now, many of you are aware of the formation of a newly created
OUT STATE Minnesota Recreational Sports Federation. This federation, as
Representative 1 Margery Harkins interpret its objectives , was created to provide a similar
Representative 2 Dale Johnson recreational sports program as originally developed during the past
many years by the MRPA. Certainly its organizational structure
ECUTIVEDIRECTOR consisting of a Board of Directors, seven District Commissioners
ardJ Jorgensen and District Umpires In Chief is the same as developed by the MRPA.
I 'm reminded of the tremendous involvement by so many of you and
other MRPA professionals who canvassed the entire state of Minnesota
SECTIONS CHAIRPERSONS years ago in developing this organizational structure.
Athletics Charles Corlett
Board/CommissionsaNatual Mary Ordal To me, creation of a new federation with, in essence, the same
Park&Natural
Resources Maurice Anderson athletic goals and objectives as the MRPA, is counter productive
Recreation Mary Saarion to the existing and long time proven recreational sports program
Therapeutic Mary Erlandson offered by the MRPA for the past 30 years. Built upon a strong
Student Leona Talfe heritage of membership involvement, MRPA has focused its professional
energies on a comprehensive recreational sports program that has
COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSONS taken into consideration all levels of competition, all age groups
Awards Robert Mcklund and all abilities to participate including those individuals who may
Board of Publications John Christian be handicapped.
Conference John Keprios
Public Relations Randy B Johnson Many professional members over several decades have worked tirelessly
Continuing Education Marilyn Egerdal to provide registration, sanctioning and competitive offerings to a
multitude of teams and communities throughout Minnesota.
