r
MEMO TO: Mounds View City Council
Donald F. Pauley, Clerk-Admin 's 111-
FROM: Bruce K. Anderson, Di ,
Parks , Recreation &1T 1
DATE: January 8, 1982
RE: Year end forestry report
Enclosed is a copy of our year end forestry report which provides an overview
of the 1981 program. As you 're aware, 1981 was the first year of a two-year
joint powers agreement with the City of New Brighton.
From staff's perspective it was a very positive beginning , largely due to the
efforts of City Forester Rick Wriskey. Although the forestry budget was reduced
by about 60% we were able to not only maintain the same level of service, but
in some areas able to increase our productivity.
' Ill°
This successful report is due to two major factors :
1. Use of automated equipment from the City of New Brighton such as :
a. Vermeer Tree Spade
b. Trencher
c. Tanker truck
d. Power hand tools.
2. Through the joint powers agreement we were able to increase our
manpower flexibility through additional part-time personnel and work-load
scheduling.
The major highlights of the 1981 forestry program came in our reforestation
program. We were able to plant 204 large trees including 43 new trees at
Silver View Park and approximately 1 ,000 seedlings at Ardan Park. We also
received 19 trees from Mounds View residents which were transplanted through
111/1
the use of the tree spade.
i
