!r
1 11111
•
MEMO TO: MoundsV ew Parks and Recreation Commission
FROM: St
—7aiW
DATE: January 27 , 1982
RE: Winter Skating Program
The winter skating program is in full swing and running relatively smoothly.
There was a delay in opening Greenfield Park due to possible budget reductions
1110 (see enclosed memo) but the four warming houses opened December 22, 1981 with
Greenfield opening January 15, 1982.
We currently have five portable buildings at Greenfield, Groveland, Hillview,
Lambert and Woodcrest Parks. Each of the buildings is heated with propane
except Hillview which is electric heat. There were considerable problems
during the initial weeks in constructing benches , stairs , matting , and
electrical hook-ups . We have received a minimum number of complaints regarding
the buildings , largely from Lake Region Hockey teams during game nights when
the buildings are just too small . Although we have received some negative
comments regarding the size there are some obvious advantages of windows and
heat. In general staff feels that the portable buildings are working fairly
well given the alternatives we were faced with.
The City Council did award the construction phase of the Lambert Shelter Building
to Stenco Construction Company, but the weather has not been conducive to building
construction. Our contacts with Stenco Corporation indicate that they will
111/1
probably commence construction in early March when the weather warms up a bit
(about 36°) to pour footings.
