Park and Recreation Commission
Page 2
January 27 , 1982
•
We have made arrangements for both the Hillview and Woodcrest warming house
buildings to be removed in early spring. The Jaycees will be taking the •
Woodcrest building and Councilmember Hodges has requested the Hillview building.
Our present plans are to retain the Greenfield building for storage and remove
the Lambert building once the new building is constructed.
The last issue regarding winter skating that you should be apprised of consists
of our winter maintenance program. The crew has been doing an excellent job
given the extreme weather conditions we have been faced with. We have closed
our rink operations down for the past three weekends due either to cold weather
or blizzard conditions. The biggest problem we are faced with centers around
weekend maintenance. The City has not budgeted any dollars for weekend maintenance
which places the burden for shoveling the rinks by hand on our rink attendants .
Unfortunately this is not alwa"s feasible and we have been forced to cancel numerous
Lake Region Hockey games due to the cold weather and heavy snowfall . •
Staff would recommend that you visit one of the portable buildings so that
you can experience first hand the positive and negative aspects of this program.
Additional background information will be provided by staff at Thursdays meeting
regarding the winter skating program.
•
