ir
•
MEMO TO: Mounds View Parks and Recreation Commission
FROM: Bruce K. Anderson , Director
Parks, Recreation and Forestry
DATE: December 8, 1981
RE: School Closings
The word is out, it appears that Edgewood Junior High, Ralph Reeder,
Red Oak and Johanna Junior High Schools are slated for closure in
June, 1981.
Staff has enclosed the criteria from School District #621 regarding the
projected school closings as well as some additional school district memos.
111/1 Needless to say, but should the in and outdoor facilities at Edgewood and
Red Oak not become available for community usage, our department will
suffer greatly. Staff is meeting with the Community Education Advisory
Council on Tuesday evening, with Dr, Nygren , Superintendent of Schools
on Wednesday and there is a public hearing with the School Board scheduled
for Thursday evening at 8:30 p.m.
Although staff is not taking a formal position , we have been busy preparing
statistics regarding our present school usage,
Again , this is strictly an informational item, but one that obviously will
affect our department for the next few years,
P.S. Edgewood has the City's only tennis courts , football field , baseball
and softball fields south of Highway 10, and the only running track and
full size gymnasium with locker room.
•
