Participation:
The Mounds View Parks and Recreation Department would like to emphasize that youth sports
programs are for all children. While leagues must be structured according to skill and
maturation , youngsters should all be able to participate at some level on a regular basis .
In our opinion , "a regular basis" is in every game and practice session. Winning is
important to players but not as important as having fun . In a recent survey, 72% of t
players indicated they would rather play on a losing team than sit on the bench of a winning
team. The following is the minimum playing time requirements for participants in their
respective sports:
Soccer: Minimum of 2 quarters/game
Flag Football : Minimum of 2 quarters/game
Softball/baseball : Minimum of 2 innings for 5 inning game and
3 innings for a 7 inning game with at least
one at bat/game.
Outline of Programs:
Instructional League - This league will be for Kindergarten and 1st grade children intereste(
in learning the fundamentals of team sports . The program will be run in the afternoon with
paid staff from the Parks and Recreation Department. This program will be coached and led by vo unteer
coaches . The instruction is held during the afternoons at various neighborhood parks .
