}
Park Shelter Buildings
Page 5
September 22, 1981
3. (continued)
Staff would recommend that rather than going with the more expensive pre-
fabricated wood panels, that we use break away block instead which will be
more permanent and cheaper than the pre-fabricated panels. This has been done
at a number of neighborhing communities , most recently in Blaine. I have
included the cost breakdown for Blaine's buildings which were all contracted
out.
Building Inspector Mikulak also feels that we could construct the block building
at a more economical price than the pre-fab Panels.
Delivery could be possibly by October 18, 1981 which would allow ample time for
a fall construction prior to a winter skating opening in mid-December.
• Staff was involved in the construction of two Game Time buildings while employed
in Maplewood (both completed in-house) so I am familiar with the construction and
building. As there are a number of Game Time buildings in neighborinn communities ,
Blaine, Brooklyn Center, Maplewood, and Roseville, to name a few, staff would be
more than happy to schedule a brief tour so you can get a first hand view of the
buildings at your convenience.
As a final note, the buildings can be modified or converted to whatever pleasures
you may desire, i .e. garage doors , or removable panels for greater summer use,
etc.
In summary staff would like to conclude with some proposed long range projections
for the winter skating program.
1. I feel that the Park Commission should attempt to work with the City Council in
developing a building program of one warming house building each year.
•
